I’m delighted to share an update on the remarkable momentum BILM has seen in recent months. The level of interest and support we have received has been overwhelming, and it has made one thing very clear: the vision for BILM is resonating strongly with clinicians, researchers, students and industry partners who want to see longevity medicine developed to the highest possible standard.
That response has prompted us to rethink and rebuild much of the website so that it better reflects who we are, what we stand for, and where we are going. BILM is more than a website and more than a series of services; it is a growing professional home for doctors and scholars committed to evidence-based longevity medicine, preventive care and regenerative health. The new site will better showcase our Fellowship pathway, our standards, our research activity and the breadth of work we are building across education, accreditation, publication and professional development. – Dr Amir Afzul
Next steps
A major part of this next phase is the launch of two new prizes for medical students and doctors. These awards are designed to encourage scholarly engagement with longevity medicine, support the next generation of clinicians, and recognise original thinking in a field that is still defining its academic identity. We want to nurture curiosity, reward excellence and create clear entry points for talented individuals who want to contribute to the future of the specialty.
We are also pleased to announce the introduction of the British Journal of Longevity Medicine. The journal will provide an open-access platform for research, reviews, commentary and clinical scholarship in longevity medicine, helping to build a stronger evidence base and a more visible academic community around the discipline. We see the journal as a vital part of BILM’s long-term mission to raise standards and shape the conversation in this rapidly evolving area.
Behind the scenes, the Board has also been working hard to map out the first CKS-style topics for BILM. These guidelines will be developed carefully and methodically, with a focus on practical clinical relevance, evidence grading, patient selection, monitoring, contraindications and follow-up. This work is central to our aim of producing trusted, usable and defensible resources for doctors practising in longevity medicine.
Looking ahead, our ambition is to continue cementing BILM’s status as a serious learned society and professional body for UK doctors in this field. As part of that journey, we are also exploring the long-term goal of securing an .ac.uk domain, reflecting the academic and educational foundation of the Institute and the seriousness of our mission.
None of this progress would be possible without the support, encouragement and goodwill we have received so far. To everyone who has contributed time, expertise, ideas or simply expressed belief in what BILM is trying to build, thank you. Your support matters deeply, and it is helping turn an ambitious idea into a meaningful institution.
Thank you again for being part of this journey.
Future plans include establishing a regular Grand Round series, expanding our educational offer, and beginning review of submissions and recommendations for Fellowship by Distinction candidates. We remain committed to building BILM carefully, credibly and with integrity, always in the service of patients, doctors and the wider public.
