Founding Membership, first 50 places, first year free. British Institute for Longevity Medicine.

To mark the commencement of the new membership tiers available for BILM, the first 50 eligible doctors to register for ‘Member’ grade membership, as ‘Founding Members’ to the institution, will get their membership fee free for the first year. That includes access to BILM’s complete CPD programme as it completes and any APC fees waived for publishing in the British Journal of Longevity Medicine (BJLM).

The British Institute for Longevity Medicine (BILM) is opening Founding Membership. The first 50 eligible doctors who apply will join the Member grade, free of charge, for their first year.

BILM is a non-profit learned society for doctors working in longevity, preventive and regenerative medicine. Its aim is to give the field the clinical rigour and shared standards that patients should expect.

“Patients are already asking their doctors about longevity,” said Dr Khan, a co-founder of BILM. “I want every doctor who answers to have the evidence, and the confidence to say what we don’t yet know.”

What founding members receive

In their first year, founding members get free access to:

    • BILM’s CPD programme (expected to be completed by the end of November 2026). While representing excellent revision for the FBILM exam, these also allow members to meet well beyond their 50 hours of CPD through modules designed with presentations, reading, reflections, questions to test knowledge and of course, certificates for portfolios. We will release modules as they’re completed. The first, Foundations of Longevity Medicine, is currently in final review. Doctors decide for themselves how the activity fits their own CPD and appraisal.

    • British Journal of Longevity Medicine – BJLM. ‘Member’ grade members of BILM have any manuscript submissions to BJLM waived. This means free peer-review and submission to the journal subject to acceptance.

    • The chance to join BILM’s committees, working groups and journal roles.

    • ‘Members’ (in addition to ‘Fellows’) also get voting rights about key decisions about the institution as they open, when opened by the board to the body.

    • ‘Members’ receive significant discount to the annual BILM conference.

Who can apply

Founding Membership is open to GMC-registered doctors with a licence to practise and an interest in longevity, preventive or regenerative medicine. GPs, physicians, surgeons and other specialists are all welcome. Medical students and trainees who aren’t yet eligible and other professionals can register interest in the Associate grade.

Fellowship (FBILM) is separate and is awarded by examination or honorary delegation. Applications for the first sitting, in May 2027, open on 14 February 2027.

Terms

There are 50 places. They go on a first come, first served basis, subject to eligibility checks, including confirmation of GMC registration. The offer closes when all 50 places are taken. Founding Membership is free for the first year, and BILM is not taking any payments. Fees for later years will be in line with our standard Member membership tier. Membership of BILM does not mean, and does not imply, specialist registration with the GMC. We will update the News section when the 50 founding places have been exhausted. Unlike our FBILM examination which is open to GMC ELIGIBLE doctors, founding membership and its waived membership fee is only available to GMC registered doctors.
